TetherX sends push notifications (iOS/Android) and emails to keep you informed about your security system.

Type Description
Account Login alerts, password resets, welcome emails
Health Equipment offline, system issues, health reports
Events Analytics alerts from armed cameras (motion, intrusion, ANPR)

Tip: Event notifications require both user preferences enabled AND arming the relevant sites/cameras.

Managing Other Users' Notifications

Admins and integrators can configure notifications for users in their organisation:

  1. Go to AdminUsers Settings menu showing Users

  2. Click the user's name to open their profile - every setting on the unified user page is edited inline by clicking the value, no separate edit screen Users list - click a name to open the unified profile

  3. Open the Permissions & Notifications tab and adjust any notification preference - changes save automatically as you make them

Tip: Set the Timeline filter to "All" when searching across multiple timelines.

Arming Sites and Cameras

Arming controls whether event notifications are sent. Both the site and the camera must be armed.

Arm a Site

Go to Sites and toggle the Armed slider:

Sites page with arm toggles

Arm a Camera

Cameras have two separate controls:

Control Options Purpose
State Off / Monitor / Record Whether the camera records footage
Armed On / Off Whether notifications are sent

Tip: The Armed toggle only appears for cameras with analytics enabled. To receive notifications, the camera must be set to Record AND have Armed enabled.

From Camera Details

Go to Cameras → select camera → Details tab:

Camera details showing armed toggle

Reducing False Notifications

TetherX AI

The most effective filter is TetherX AI running directly on the TetherBox. It identifies people, vehicles, and animals on video, classifies 63 distinct sounds on audio (glass break, smoke alarm, screams, etc.), and produces searchable metadata for every detection - so notifications fire on real incidents rather than wind, foliage, shadows, or rain.

See TetherX AI for full capabilities, hardware requirements, and how to enable it.

Camera Analytics (VCA)

If your TetherBox cannot run TetherX AI, modern cameras with Video Content Analytics can still filter events at source:

  • Detect only people/vehicles (ignore animals, shadows, foliage)
  • Trigger on line crossing or zone entry
  • Filter by movement direction

Configure in your camera's web interface, then use Camera Notification Settings to ignore basic motion.

Example: Dahua IVS

Configure under EventIVS in the camera's web interface:

Dahua IVS intrusion detection settings

Image Masks

Mask out areas that cause false events (busy roads, moving trees):

  1. Go to Cameras → select camera → Mask tab
  2. Paint over areas to ignore
  3. Save

Notification Filters

Use Camera Notification Settings to:

  • Add frequent false positives to Always Ignore
  • Keep critical alerts in Always (Video Lost, Tamper, etc.)

Stopping Notifications

Platform Notifications

  1. Click your profile icon → open your profile
  2. Go to Permissions & Notifications tab
  3. Disable all options: User notification settings
  4. Click Update User

Marketing Emails

Click Unsubscribe at the bottom of any marketing email.

Billing Emails

Sent from TetherX accounting systems for outstanding financial matters. These stop automatically once resolved.

Troubleshooting

Warning: Not receiving notifications? Check these common causes:

  • Site AND camera must both be armed
  • User notification preferences must be enabled
  • Event type must not be in camera's Always Ignore list
  • TetherX app must have notification permissions on your device

Tip: Too many notifications? Use Camera Notification Settings to add unwanted event types to Always Ignore, configure camera analytics to filter at source, or use the Mask tab to ignore busy areas.

Note: Push notifications are near-instant. Email delivery depends on your provider - check spam/junk if emails are delayed.
