Events

Events are created automatically from motion detection, camera analytics, alarm activations, access control activity, and TetherBox status changes (online/offline, reboots, storage ejection). The Events page is your central hub for reviewing security footage and incidents.

Finding Events

Navigate to the Events page from the left sidebar. Events are displayed with thumbnails showing the moment of detection.

Grid View vs Row View

Toggle between views using the icons in the top toolbar:

Grid view displays event thumbnails in a visual grid layout - ideal for quickly scanning through footage.

Events grid view

Row view displays events in a list with additional details like zone, site, date, duration, and file size. This view is ideal for real-time event monitoring and response - see the Monitoring Station Operator Guide for details.

Sharing Events

Share events with people outside your organisation - useful for providing evidence to police or other parties without giving them full platform access.

  1. Navigate to the Events page
  2. Drag a selection box over the events you want to share
  3. Click the Share button in the toolbar

Select events to share

  1. Choose your sharing method:
    • Email - Send directly to one or more recipients. They can access without logging in.
    • Copy Link - Copy the URL to paste into an email, message, or document.

Share dialog

The recipient gets full context including video surveillance, alarm panel information, access control data, ANPR, analytics, and any other enabled integrations.

Unshare Events

To disable shared links:

  1. Select the shared events
  2. Click the Unshare button in the toolbar

Create a Temporary User

For extended access, create a temporary user account:

  1. Go to AdminUsersNew User
  2. Set an Expiry date for the account

User expiry date picker

  1. Configure permissions to specific zones or sites

If the user doesn't access the evidence before their account expires, they'll see contact details to request an extension.

Tip: For forensic evidence requests, contact us about our extraction service. We provide footage with SHA1 checksums backed up in the cloud to verify the evidence has not been tampered with.

Tip: All event timestamps are reliable for legal evidence. TetherX automatically synchronises camera clocks with your TetherBox, ensuring accurate timestamps across all cameras.

Viewing Footage

Click any event thumbnail to open the event detail view:

  • Recordings tab - Play back the recorded footage
  • Timelapse tab - View a time-compressed overview
  • Audit Log tab - See who has viewed or interacted with this event

Use Prev and Next buttons to navigate between events without returning to the list.

Downloading Events

Tip: Before downloading, consider if sharing the footage would be more efficient. Video files are large (typically 15-50MB per minute depending on resolution and motion) and can take hours or even days to extract depending on Internet speed. Sharing lets recipients view and download only what they need.

Warning: Flag important footage immediately to protect it from deletion. The system automatically deletes the oldest footage to make space for new recordings - flagged events are kept indefinitely.

Download a Single Event

  1. Click on an event to open it
  2. Click the Download button to download the complete event footage

Download Multiple Events

Use bulk operations to download several events at once:

  1. Drag a selection box around multiple event thumbnails
  2. Click the Download button in the toolbar
  3. You'll receive an email with the download link when ready

Tip: Bulk operations also work for flagging, sharing, and hiding multiple events at once.

Download Restrictions

Warning: Downloads require the TetherBox to be online with an active cloud subscription. Regular users can download up to 15 events at once; admin/integrator users up to 100.

Event limits per download:

  • Regular users: up to 15 events
  • Admin/Integrator users: up to 100 events

Requirements:

  • The TetherBox must be online
  • Cloud subscription must be active on the camera
  • Events must have recordings attached

Other limits:

  • Download links expire after 7 days
  • Only one download can be in progress at a time - you'll receive an email when complete
  • Users need the Allow Download permission enabled (on by default)
  • Bulk downloads require the Allow Bulk Download permission (enabled by default for admin/integrator users)

Bulk Extraction Options

For large-scale footage extraction beyond normal downloads:

  • Clone Internal Drive - Connect an external hard drive of equal or larger size to the TetherBox. Go to AdminTetherBoxes → select your TetherBox → Storage tab to check the drive size. Contact us to initiate a full copy.

  • TetherX Export Service - We offer a paid service to mass extract footage and timelapse from the unit and/or cloud, providing a download link when complete. Extraction time depends on connection speed and footage volume. Contact us for details.
